Who is Mike Pence?

Michael Richard Pence (born June 7, 1959) is an American politician who was the 48th vice president of the United States from 2017 to 2021 under Donald Trump. Before becoming vice president, he served as the 50th governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017.

Pence was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013. He also chaired the House Republican Conference from 2009 to 2011. Pence is a longtime supporter of the Tea Party movement. He is a Republican.

On July 14, 2016, Donald J. Trump's campaign said that Pence would be Trump's choice for running mate in the 2016 presidential election. The Trump-Pence campaign went on to defeat the Clinton-Kaine campaign in the general election on November 8, 2016. Pence was inaugurated as vice president of the United States on January 20, 2017.

On November 7, 2020 the Trump-Pence campaign lost their re-election bid to former Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Senator Kamala Harris following the 2020 election. After the election Trump falsely claimed the election was corrupt and wanted Pence to overturn the election results. Pence did not do this and voted to certify Biden as the winner on January 6, 2021 in the aftermath of the United States Capitol attack.

In June 2023, Pence announced his campaign for president in the 2024 election. However, after low polling numbers, Pence ended his campaign on October 28, 2023.
